Over the last few years, PWYP-Canada conducted much of its advocacy for mandatory disclosure through the work of the Resource Revenue Transparency Working Group, originally established in September 2012. Members of the group included PWYP-Canada, the Revenue Watch Institute (now Natural Resource Governance Institute) the Mining Association of Canada and the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada.
This alliance campaigned for the government to introduce mandatory disclosure rules and significantly contributed, via consultations, submissions and recommendations, to the successful adoption of the Extractive Sector Transparency Measures Act (ESTMA). It is significant that this was a project of collaboration between civil society and mining companies, which should contribute to a law that is effective and helpful to both citizens and extractive companies.
The work of the group has officially come to an end, although informal collaboration on the implementation of the ESTMA still takes place. You can find out more about its previous work below.
